Director of Music, Chad Winterfeldt, has served First Lutheran since August 2004.  Nurturing his love of organ music, he graduated in August 2004 with a doctorate in organ performance from the University of Nebraska, where he studied with George Ritchie and Quentin Faulkner.  He earned his bachelor’s degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and his master’s degree at Yale University.  Prior to moving to Nebraska, he studied with Clyde Holloway for several years at Rice University in Houston, Texas.  In Houston, Chad served as associate organist at Christ the King Lutheran Church, which hosts the Houston Bach Society and a wonderful organ built in the central German style of Zacharias Hildebrandt.  He has taught at Concordia University – Nebraska in Seward, as adjunct professor of Organ and Music History.  A highlight of his career is the solo performance in August 2002 on the newly restored “Bach organ” at Wenzelskirche in Naumburg, Germany.  In addition to serving at First, he is also Assistant Organist at Christ Chapel of Gustavus Adolphus College, assisting with chapel twice per week.  Chad lives in Saint Peter with his wife Beth and children Quentin and Eleanor.
